Self storage is a booming business these days. It's certainly not difficult to obtain more items than you can store in your home or office. If you have multiple facilities to choose from, call each one for more details. Ask for prices and sizes, then compare to discover which company offers the best value for your money. You don't want a unit that's too small, but then again one that is too large can be a waste of money. Price isn't the only factor you should consider, however.

Security is yet another area that you need to look at when choosing between self storage facilities. Some businesses have security guards to keep the units safe and watch out for potential burglaries. Others use less expensive methods of keeping units secure, such as bright lighting and surveillance cameras. Even if you choose a company with good security, you'll still want a strong lock to put on your unit. Check your local hardware or home improvement store for the best selection of locks. Other security measures include only visiting your unit during the day, and placing the most valuable items in the back to make them more difficult to reach.

Another consideration when choosing between self storage companies is whether or not you want a climate controlled unit. Climate control means that the temperature and humidity level is kept at a constant level. Fluctuations in temperature and moisture can lead to damage of your valuables, so if you can afford it, a climate controlled unit is a good thing to have. Finally, you'll want to choose a storage unit company that is established, licensed and offers good customer service. The right self storage facility can make your life easier and your living area less cluttered. In today's stressful and overcrowded world, that's definitely a good thing!
